Mountain & Gravel Biking

Guided Rides

We offer superb guided mountain and gravel bike rides to suit a wide range of abilities. From our base in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, we enjoy easy access to some stunning local trails in areas including the Nidderdale National Landscape and the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors National Parks. We are also able to provide guided rides further afield, including the Peak District and Lake District National Parks.

All our rides are led by a fully qualified and experienced MIAS Level 2 instructor, mountain bike orienteer and cyclo-cross rider, who also holds the summer ML and a current 16-hour outdoor first aid qualification. All guided rides include coaching in bike handling, trail skills and route navigation, paving the way for long-term mastery. Guided rides are offered periodically, advertised here and through all our social media channels, but can also be offered upon request. Group ratio 1:8.

Skills Courses & Coaching

We offer skills development and coaching courses to help you hone your bike handling and trail riding skills. All skills development and coaching courses are be tailored to the needs of you and your group, with flexibility around location, duration and format to suit your requirements. Under the guidance of a fully qualified and experienced MIAS Level 2 instructor, you will develop the technique and skills required to perform on the bike at a higher level – making your rides safer, more enjoyable and rewarding. Instructor-led skills courses and coaching can be offered to school groups, Scouts and Guides, D of E candidates (Physical and/or Expedition sections) and other organisations. Mountain/gravel bike skills and coaching courses are offered upon request. Group ratio: 1:8.

Making a Difference

We will donate 5% of the cost of any mountain or gravel bike course to Open Country.

Based in Harrogate and active across much of Yorkshire, Open Country has over 30 years of experience in successfully organising and leading countryside activities and has enabled hundreds of people with a disability to access and enjoy the countryside. They provide regular Companion Cycling and Tandem Club activities across the region.
